Buying Bitcoin with Interac e-Transfer: common questions

Can I buy Bitcoin with Interac e-Transfer in Canada?

Yes. Bitcoin4U accepts Interac e-Transfer from any Canadian bank or credit union that offers it, which is over 250 of them. Enter the amount and the wallet address you want the Bitcoin sent to, verify your identity once, send the e-Transfer from a bank account in your own name, and the Bitcoin is sent to your wallet once the deposit is received and matches your order.

How do I buy Bitcoin in Canada with Bitcoin4U?

Verify your identity once on the ID verification page. Then enter the amount and your Bitcoin address and pick a delivery speed: "Right now", with a priority network fee, or "I can wait", with a network fee and the longest wait shown on the form. Send the Interac e-Transfer from a bank account in your own name; a sender name that does not match yours sends the order to manual review. The minimum is $50 and the limit $25,000 CAD per 24 hours; above that, use a wire transfer.

How long does it take to receive my Bitcoin?

Instantly. With "Right now", your Bitcoin is sent automatically, day or night, as soon as your e-Transfer is deposited and matches your order: 99% of those orders go out within 20 seconds, and an order held for a name, amount or address check takes longer. If you choose "I can wait" for a lower fee, it goes out within the longest wait shown on the order form. The Bitcoin network then confirms it, usually in 10 to 20 minutes and longer when the network is busy, and your receipt email carries the transaction ID. Most banks deliver an e-Transfer within a few minutes; a few take up to 30 minutes.

What kind of Bitcoin address can I use?

Use an on-chain Bitcoin address from a wallet you control, or the Bitcoin deposit address of an exchange account in your own name. Addresses starting with 1, 3, bc1q or bc1p (Taproot) are all accepted. Paste the bare address only: a "bitcoin:" payment link, a Lightning invoice or a testnet address will not work. Bitcoin needs no destination tag or memo. Check the address against your wallet before you confirm, because Bitcoin sent to the wrong address cannot be recovered. Our Bitcoin wallet guide explains how to set one up.

Where is the closest Bitcoin ATM to buy Bitcoin with cash?

Find it on the Bitcoin ATM locator, which shows Bitcoin4U ATM locations across Canada. Every machine sells Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, USD Coin, Solana and XRP for Canadian cash. Bring your mobile phone and your wallet's receiving QR code; first-time buyers verify their identity once, and you can verify your ID before you go. The machines are buy-only: to sell Bitcoin, sell online and get paid by Interac e-Transfer. Our Bitcoin ATM guide covers what to expect.

Is Bitcoin4U a registered Canadian business?

Yes. Bitcoin4U (Innovative Horizon Technologies Inc.) is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business, registration number M19742234, and with Revenu Quebec, registration number 16220. Canadian law requires identity verification: it is done once, on your phone, and usually takes under a minute. See the policies page.

What are the fees and limits for buying with e-Transfer?

The amount of Bitcoin you will receive and every fee are shown on screen before you confirm. The quote holds for one hour; if your e-Transfer arrives after that, the Bitcoin amount is recalculated at the rate when it lands. The minimum order is $50, and Interac e-Transfer purchases go up to $25,000 CAD per 24 hours; for larger amounts, buy by wire transfer ($25,000 or more). Current rates are on the fees page.

Do I need my own wallet to buy Bitcoin from Bitcoin4U?

You need an address to receive the Bitcoin: a wallet you control, or an account at an exchange in your own name. Bitcoin4U is non-custodial: the Bitcoin goes straight to the address you enter and we never hold your coins. If you do not have a wallet yet, our wallet guide compares the options so you can set one up before you buy.
