One machine in the west end, one in the east
Bitcoin4U has two machines in Edmonton, on opposite sides of the city. Feed either one Canadian bills and it sends Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, USD Coin, Solana or XRP to the wallet app on your phone. Neither accepts cards of any kind.
In the west end, Okay Convenience on 163 Street serves Glenwood, Britannia Youngstown, West Jasper Place and Mayfield. In the east end, Capilano Cloud Shop is on 101 Avenue a couple of blocks east of 75 Street, close to Forest Heights, Terrace Heights, Ottewell and Capilano; look for the green ATM sign in its window. Either way, picking up cryptocurrency can fit into an ordinary errand rather than a separate trip across Edmonton. If you are travelling south, there is also a machine in Millet.
Cash, or a transfer from home
Both kiosks are cash only and buy only. That suits anyone paid in bills, or anyone who wants coins in a wallet without waiting for a bank transfer to clear. When paying from your bank account feels easier, place the order online by Interac e-Transfer instead. Turning cryptocurrency back into dollars is also an online step, through selling by e-Transfer, not something either machine does.
Common questions
I have never used a cryptocurrency wallet. Is that a problem?
Not if you install one before you leave home. The machine scans a QR code from the wallet app to learn where your coins should go, so set the app up first; our guide to non-custodial wallets explains what to look for, and holding your own keys means nobody else controls the funds.
How long does identity verification take in Edmonton?
Usually under a minute. It happens once, on your phone, before your first purchase, and after that daily limits of up to $40,000 apply. You can finish it at home if you verify before you visit, and the current fee is listed online.
