How to Sell Bitcoin in Canada for an Interac e-Transfer
The short answer: sell your Bitcoin online and have the Canadian dollars sent to your bank by Interac e-Transfer. With Bitcoin4U you verify your ID once, lock your price, and send Bitcoin from your own wallet or an exchange account in your name. Once the transaction has one network confirmation, usually 10 to 20 minutes after you send, the e-Transfer goes out automatically, day or night: 99% of payouts are sent within 20 seconds of that confirmation, and occasionally a sale needs a manual check first. Each sale can be from $50 to $25,000.
Bitcoin4U is a non-custodial cryptocurrency exchange registered with FINTRAC as a money services business (M19742234). Online selling is for Bitcoin only, and payouts are by Interac e-Transfer only. When you are ready, sell Bitcoin for Interac e-Transfer.

How to sell Bitcoin for an Interac e-Transfer, step by step
- Verify your ID once. There is no username or password to set up. The check runs on your phone and covers your address, email, mobile number, government-issued photo ID, occupation and a selfie; it typically takes under a minute and is only needed on your first transaction. You can verify ahead of time so your first sale does not wait on it. See our Privacy Policy.
- Enter your mobile number and the amount. Your number loads your quote and shows how much of your limit is left. Type the Bitcoin you want to sell or the Canadian dollars you want to receive, and the other side fills in.
- Review the sale and lock your price. The review screen shows the Canadian dollars you will receive, the fee, the rate and the exact amount of Bitcoin. Enter the code we text you and press "Finalize purchase" to lock the price; it is held for 60 minutes from your review, so confirm promptly.
- Send the exact amount to the address shown. Scan the QR code or copy the address and amount into your wallet. We also email you the same address and amount; check that they match before you send. The Bitcoin must come from a wallet you own or an exchange account in your own name.
- Wait for one network confirmation. This usually takes 10 to 20 minutes, and longer when the network is busy. The tracking page follows your sale, and we email you as it moves.
- Get paid by Interac e-Transfer. The e-Transfer is sent automatically, at any hour, to the email address on your account. Most banks deposit it within minutes; some take up to 30. If you do not have Autodeposit set up, accept it in your online banking with the security answer we email you.
All verification is done before you are given the Bitcoin address, so you never send coins and then wait on an ID check.
How long does it take to sell Bitcoin?
The fastest way to sell Bitcoin in Canada for an Interac e-Transfer is to verify your ID ahead of time and send from your own wallet, so there is no exchange withdrawal to wait on. The one wait you cannot skip is the network confirmation. After it, the payout is automatic: 99% of Bitcoin4U sell payouts are sent within 20 seconds of the confirmation, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no business-hours queue.
| Step | What happens | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Verify ID (first transaction only) | On your phone: photo ID and a selfie | Typically under a minute |
| Quote and price lock | Rate, fee and CAD amount shown; price locked with the texted code and held for 60 minutes from your review | At your pace |
| Send Bitcoin | From your own wallet, or an exchange account in your name | Wallet: right away. Exchange: its withdrawal processing time |
| One network confirmation | The Bitcoin network confirms the transaction | Usually 10 to 20 minutes; longer when busy |
| e-Transfer sent | Automatically, to the email on your account, at any hour | 99% within 20 seconds of the confirmation |
| Money in your bank | Your bank deposits the e-Transfer | Most within minutes; some up to 30 minutes |
Occasionally a sale needs a manual check by our team before the e-Transfer goes out. The tracking page tells you if so; nothing more is needed from you.
What you need before you sell
- A mobile phone. You cannot buy or sell through Bitcoin4U without one.
- An email address, which is where your e-Transfer is sent.
- A Canadian bank account that can receive an Interac e-Transfer.
- Bitcoin in a wallet you own and control, or in an exchange account in your own name.
- Government-issued photo ID for your first verification.
- Canadian residency, and you must be at least 18. Bitcoin4U buys only from adult residents of Canada.
- Enough Bitcoin for a payout of at least $50 after the fee. One sale can be up to $25,000.
Fees, rates and limits
You see the rate, the fee and the Canadian dollars you will receive before you lock the price, and the fee is deducted from the payout, so the amount on the review screen is what you are sent. The price is held for 60 minutes from your review; if your Bitcoin arrives after that, the payout is adjusted to the market rate.
A sale is $50 minimum and $25,000 maximum. Your own limit can be lower, and the order page shows what you have left as soon as you enter your mobile number. Current sell rates and fees are on the fees page.
Your wallet or exchange also charges its own network or withdrawal fee to send the Bitcoin, separate from Bitcoin4U's quote.
Sending Bitcoin from an exchange account or your own wallet
- Send only BTC, on the Bitcoin network, to the address on your order.
- Send the exact amount shown. If your exchange takes its withdrawal fee out of the amount you enter, add the fee on top so the exact amount arrives. If a different amount arrives, the e-Transfer is recalculated for what arrived, at the market rate when it is seen, and we email you the details; if that would exceed your limit, the sale waits for a manual check.
- Double-check the address against the one we email you. Malware can swap a copied address on an infected computer; if they differ, stop and contact us.
- Allow for withdrawal processing when you send from an exchange: your price is held for 60 minutes from your review, and Bitcoin that arrives later is paid at the market rate.
- Use a normal network fee. A very low fee can leave the transaction unconfirmed for a long time, and the e-Transfer waits for that confirmation.
- Send once. If your transaction does not show up, email [email protected] with your order reference rather than sending a second deposit.

Sell only your own Bitcoin
If someone has asked you to sell coins on their behalf, or has sent you Bitcoin and asked you to forward the money, stop. That is a common way of laundering the proceeds of fraud, and you would be the one on the hook. Bitcoin4U never makes outbound phone calls, and our emails only come from addresses ending in @bitcoin4u.ca. Read our guide to common cryptocurrency scams if any part of a request feels unusual.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I transfer Bitcoin straight to my bank account in Canada?
Not directly: a bank account holds Canadian dollars, not Bitcoin. You sell the Bitcoin and the dollars go to your bank. With Bitcoin4U you send BTC from your own wallet or an exchange account in your name, and an Interac e-Transfer is sent automatically, at any hour, after one network confirmation, usually 10 to 20 minutes later.
How fast is the e-Transfer after I send my Bitcoin?
The e-Transfer waits for one network confirmation, which usually takes 10 to 20 minutes. After that, 99% of Bitcoin4U sell payouts are sent within 20 seconds, and most banks deposit an e-Transfer within minutes. Occasionally a sale needs a manual check by our team first.
Can I sell Bitcoin at night or on a weekend?
Yes. Bitcoin4U sends sell payouts automatically 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including evenings, weekends and holidays. The Interac e-Transfer goes out as soon as your Bitcoin has one network confirmation, and most banks deposit it within minutes.
Can I sell Bitcoin that is on another exchange?
Yes, if the exchange account is in your own name. Withdraw the Bitcoin from it to the address Bitcoin4U shows on your order, and allow for the exchange's withdrawal processing time. Do not sell coins for anyone else, or Bitcoin a stranger sent you: that is a common money-laundering scam.
What happens if my Bitcoin takes more than an hour to arrive?
Your price is held for 60 minutes from your review of the sale. If your Bitcoin arrives after that, the payout is adjusted to the market rate. Send soon after you lock the price, and with a normal network fee, so the transaction confirms promptly.
How much Bitcoin can I sell at once?
A sale is $50 minimum and $25,000 maximum. Your own limit can be lower, and the order page shows what you have left as soon as you enter your mobile number.
Can I sell Ethereum or other crypto for an e-Transfer?
Not with Bitcoin4U. Online selling is Bitcoin only, and payouts are by Interac e-Transfer only. Bitcoin4U sells Ethereum, Litecoin, Solana, XRP and USD Coin, but it does not buy them back. Send only BTC, on the Bitcoin network, to a Bitcoin4U sell address.
What do I need to sell Bitcoin for the first time?
A mobile phone, an email address, a Canadian bank account that accepts Interac e-Transfers, Bitcoin in a wallet you control or an exchange account in your own name, and government-issued photo ID and a selfie for a one-time check on your phone, which typically takes under a minute. You must be a resident of Canada and at least 18.
